This image was
inspired by the Bragaglia Brothers, I made this image by putting the camera on
bulb and holding the capture button down until the model had moved and changed
her face. I had to be careful about the aperture because I didn’t want the
image under or over exposed so I had to do a few test shots. I think this image
works very well as a response to the work of the Bragaglia Brothers because it
is in the style of their work and you can see two different sides to the model
in this photograph.
This image was made
in photoshop for a project on remaking a CD cover my song was Hurt by Johnny
Cash. I decided to go for the death side of the song so I went out and took some
photos of graves. I then photo-shopped them together and came up with several
different images. I believe this to be a good response to the song because you
can see and feel the pain and hurt when you look at this photograph. Especially
with the graves in the image, they add that extra doom and gloom feel to the
picture.
I made this image for
the CD cover of Johnny Cash’s song Hurt. This image is an extension of the
previous image, I have changed a few things but it’s basically the same image.
However I think that this image works better for the song because there are
several different meanings in the song and I think I conveyed that in the image
because of the way that I have flipped the image to mirror its self. It is like
saying there are two sides to the song and image and you have to look closely to
see them both.
This is another experimental
image that I made for the Johnny Cash song. I made it differently this time
however. I added the crown of thorns from one of the lines of the song. I
managed to do this by making a photogram of some thorns I made into a crown
shape. I then scanned them into the computer and superimposed it onto the image
I had already made to make it more interesting. I think the adding of the crown
of thorns make the image come together as a whole.
This is another
experimental image for the song Hurt. I wanted this one to be more interesting
so I tried to make it look like a rib cage by the way I place the headstones as
ribs. I then added on a part of the crown of thorns, I didn’t want to add the
whole thing because I was trying to make this image about straight lines and
adding a circle would have not worked for the image. I think the way I place
the thorns has worked in the favour of the image and makes it interesting.
This is the last in a
series of Johnny Cash inspired images. For this last image I wanted to make it
more round than the others because I did a straight lined one so it was the
next logical thing. That is why I have placed the crosses how I have and also
why I have put three crowns of thorns instead of just one. I thought it would
bring more to the image, I think that it works well with the roundness of the
crosses. Your eyes kind of trace the circular shapes which is what I wanted.
This is a Francesca
Woodman inspired photograph. In most of her photographs you couldn't see the
models face, this is what I was going for. I also made sure that what the
person was wearing made reference to the background like Woodman’s images. I made
it black and white in photoshop because I think it worked better, there wasn't so much colour difference in the dress and cardigan. This drew your eyes away
from the main focus of the photograph. I also like the fact that I've used the
rule of thirds I think it works well in this image.
Alexey Titarenko was the photographer who inspired
this image. I wanted to try and do something like Titarenko had created. I decided
that the best place to try and get a photograph with people in was a busy staircase.
I put the camera on a long exposure and I had it on a tripod so the camera
wouldn’t shake. I think that this worked very well because you can see that the
subject is people but you also get the ghostly effect of the long exposure
which is what Titarenko’s work was focused on.
This is one of my favourite pieces of work. I made
this image by using glow sticks in a dark room with the camera on a long
exposure. I stuck about six glow sticks together and then I asked a friend to
twirl them around whist I took the picture. I love the effect that it caused; I
did however have to crop the image in photoshop because I did not zoom in
enough. That was because I was not sure where the glow sticks would stop
considering it was a completely dark room.
I made this image by taking one original
photograph and then layering the image on top of each other. I then chose to of
the layers to invert into white. I think that this makes the image a lot more
interesting as a whole because it gives you something extra to look at. I also
like the way that I have layered the image so that you eye is drawn into the
middle of the image. I think that the more you look at this photograph the more
you realise you missed at first look.
This like the previous image was made by
layering the same image on top of itself. It was also taken in the same place
but zoomed out a bit so you could see more of the object. I decided not to
invert the image this time because I tried it and I don’t think it worked for
the image at all. Plus it would look too much like my previous experiment which
I did not want because I was trying to make different images. I think this works
well as an experimental image because of the layering and shapes.
This is my personal favourite experimental image
because it’s original and visually interesting. I made this image by taking a
picture of a drainage grate, then selecting the holes and layering them on top
of the original image on photoshop. I then decided to lower the opacity of the
layers because I wanted the original image to be seen properly, I think by
doing this I made the image more interesting to look at. You can’t actually
tell what it is when you first look at it and so you have to take some time and
think, I like that.
I particularly like this photograph of the
Olympic Flame because of several different factors, one being the English flag
in the background, another being the shimmering of the people and the flag in
the background because of the heat from the Flame. I also love the fact that
you can almost see the Flames moving and dancing in the photograph, plus the
colour is really bright and you can see all of the different shades in the
Flames. I think that this image is composed very well and is a good all round
photograph.
I made this image in photoshop, it took me a
while. I took the original image and then changed it into black and white, I
then decided to rotate the image to make a semi-circle. I then did the same but
with an inverted image. Once I had done this I looked at the picture and it
didn’t look quite finished so I duplicated the circle and moved it slightly to
the right while changing the opacity. After I had done this the image came
together as a whole and looked much more interesting.
I made the black and white top image by layering
four photographs on top of each other of someone doing an exotic dance. Once I
had got the images in the right place I then linked them together and flipped
the image upside down. Although this worked it didn’t look very interesting so
instead I inverted the bottom image which made the photograph much more
interesting to look at. After I did that I changed the levels because the
inverted image made the whole photograph look much darker than the original. I
was then happy with the outcome.
This image was in response to the word Trapped.
I was able to use another person’s image and add my own over the top. So I
found this image of the Nun and workmen in a cave and thought it would be
perfect. I then went out and took several photographs but I used the one I took
of some scaffolding and superimposed my photograph over the one I scan from a
book. I copied and flipped the book image and changed the opacity of the
scaffolding. This made the image much more interesting and surreal.
